Bachelor of Science in Physics, popularly known as B.Sc in Physics is an under-graduate program, the
minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate 10+2 in Science with Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics/Biology and English as compulsory subjects. Physics is a natural science that involves
study of matter and its motion through space, time along with similar concepts of energy or force.
The duration of B.Sc Physics is 3 years in most of the universities which is divided into 6 semesters. The
course can also be pursued in distance learning mode for 6 years duration. Those universities that do not
follow the semester system, have 3 terms which carry out examination in the end of each year.
Most of the colleges in India which offer B.Sc Physics provide direct admission to candidates on the
basis of marks obtained in 10+2, which is determined by cut-off lists generated by each college. The
student can seek admission if his marks match with the cut off announced by a college.
B.Sc. Physics: What is it about?
B.Sc. Physics is an under-graduate course of 3-year duration. The objective is to provide the students
with foundation knowledge possible for a Science-based career. There is no such specialization in this
course. Graduates from this course can find jobs in business, teaching, marketing, research.
It deals in developing creative thinking skills amongst the students and the power of imagination to
enable graduates to work in research industry for broader academic application. It provides skills
required to gather information from resources and to use them appropriately.
